There are many recovering alcoholics, even some that have gone to alcohol rehab, that feel they can have just one more drink. They may stay sober for some time and then think, “what would happen if I just had one drink? Could I stop at just one?” These are harmful thoughts for everyone who has an alcohol addiction.
No Such Thing As One More for Long
You may be able to have one drink the first time or even the second time. However, before long, you will find yourself wondering what happens if you were to have two drinks. What happens if you were to have another? There is no such thing as one more drink for too long. In time, alcoholics, even recovering ones, that pick up a drink again will end up back in their addictive ways.
The other thing to note is that if you are thinking about drinking again, you are slipping back into old patterns of the addiction. You start questioning whether you have an addiction. Do you still have a problem? You were able to stay sober for such and such a time. Does this mean you are healed from your addiction? These may be thoughts going through your mind, but you should know it is all addictive thinking.
Recovering alcoholics, even those who have successfully gone through an alcohol rehabilitation program, can’t just have one drink. This leads back to addictive patterns and the addiction can come back full-force, as well. Don’t let yourself think that way.
